BCRR WEEKLY UPDATE - October 15th to October 21st

Houston Half Marathon & 10K
Get ready for the next race in the HARRA Fall Series - the Houston Half Marathon & 10K - Sunday, October 28th! For more details and registration, CLICK HERE!

Post-race party will be hosted by Paul & Sue Schulz (3030 Amherst St.) @12 PM:
  • Open to all runners - whether or not you ran the half!
  • Pizza for refuling!
  • Pool for relaxing - with shower if you need to clean up after the race

Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K is a 3 weeks away!  
Alex's 5K  is BCRR's very own race and all the proceeds go to local autism charities: Avondale House, The Westview School, and Autism Speaks Houston.

To those new to the club, the race features an accurately measured (by our own official USATF course certifier Jay Hendrickson) flat and fast course, a Kids' K with awesome kids' activity zone (including our signature EggStravaganza Egg Hunt), $100 cash prizes for open and masters winners, an epic post-race party with food, drinks and Saint Arnold's beer.

Register HERE to run before Oct 15th to avoid the next price increase. Use code "BCRR" to get $3 off. We are also happy to have volunteers or donations. Donations tax deductible.

Practice for the Tour de Bayou Series
Practice for the Tour cross country series comprises four (4) stages and happens every October after much anticipated after the Tour de Bayou held in the Spring.

The races are free and open to everyone, you just have to promise to be careful! They are cross country (not on pavement). Distances vary from roughly three miles to five miles. Houston Area Road Runners Association will provide water, gatorade and Karbach will sponsor some post- race carb replacement.

Fall 2018 Practice for the Tour: All stages are run on Thursday and start at 6:00 p.m.

WEEKLY CLUB RUNS:
Mellow Monday- Join us every Monday for a 3 mile recovery run around Memorial Park at 7:00p.m.Runners who are interested should park on the east side of the parking lot in front of the softball fields off of the Picnic Loop. Following a loop around Memorial, we head to a dinner venue for post running fun.
Wednesday at Rice University: Every Wednesday evening we meet at 6:30 at Rice University (run leaves at 6:40 pm sharp!). All levels are welcome. And the best part is the cheap beer at Valhalla afterwards. Parking is available at First Christian Church/School (1628 Rice Boulevard).
To park in the church parking lot, you need a BCRR bumper sticker. Please see Lisa Thompson for a sticker if you do not already have one.
Friday Speedwork (Memorial Park 5:30 AM): Contact Peter Griffiths for more information-  p_griffiths@bellsouth.net
Sunday Long Run (Memorial Park, 6:30 AM): Meet us at the O mile marker for a 10, 11, or 12 mile route around Memorial Park and through River Oaks. Immediately following the run, join us Whole Foods for coffee and conversation.

YOGA IN THE PARK BENEFITING ALEX'S 5K

Thursday October 11, 6:30PM. Cullen Running Center, Memorial Park FREE with Donation to Alex's 5K

HARRA Cross Country Relay

Congrats to all who ran in the Cross Country Relay! BCRR showed up strong with multiple age group trophies…or sombreros!! 
Full results will be posted as they are made available.

Wednesday Night @ Valhalla

Join us after the Wednesday run for birthday fun, as Peter Griffiths, John Philbrick, Bob Kirkpatrick, & Christina Jones will be sponsoring the celebration of beer & pizza! Happy Birthday!! 

But wait there’s more….

Deep Tissue & Sports Massage Expert, Tameika, found and owner of Enhancing Massage & BodyWorks will be joining BCRR at Valhalla after the run! 

She will bring her chair to provide BCRR complimentary massages and information on the benefits of deep tissue work for runners, especially with marathon season approaching.

First Sunday of the Month Run

Due to the poor conditions of Buffalo Bayou, a change of pace is needed! Let’s venture to Huntsville State Park for some hill work!!

We will meet at Andrew’s house (4010 Mandell St.) at 6 AM to caravan to the park. There will be options for road or trail running with a distance of 10-15+ miles. Contact Andrew – young.andrew.joseph@gmail.com – for additional details.


For those of you continuing the River Oaks route, meet for brunch at Biskit Junkie (403 Westheimer Rd) following, where you can enjoy an outdoor patio with delicious homemade biscuits!
