BCRR Weekly Update 08/28/23 - 09/03/23

Greetings Bayou City Road Runners

The Word from the Bird

Yesterday, a cheerful host welcomed tired runners to the rose garden water stop.

Live Host Brightens Up Water Stop

For yesterday's long run, BCRR's ordinary water stop at the rose garden in River Oaks was made extraordinary thanks to the addition of a live host. Alyssa Cappelletti, a new chiropractor in town, volunteered to lend BCRR a hand Sunday to help cover for our normal volunteers who had scheduling conflicts.*

Sunday long runs don't usually include professional staffing at the club's water stops, but that's what members found yesterday at the rose garden. Alyssa's smile was a welcome addition to the bottles of water and Gatorade, and it came with free insight into various concerns member's raised about their aches and pains.

BCRR is developing a partnership with Alyssa, and you can expect to see her around at future club events. If you would like to learn more about her professional background and chiropractor services, you can reach her at 219-613-9729 or drc@fixmysportsinjury.com. Be sure to ask about BCRR members' special deal!

*To learn more about our traditional Water Stop Team, and how you can become a hero to everyone in the club, see next article, "Water Team Proves Priceless."

Water Team Proves Priceless

in Houston Heat

This summer, Houston has been tortured with 100°+ temperatures more than usual. The extreme heat would be utterly unbearable were it not for the BCRR members that provide water stations for the Sunday long runs.

BCRR angels quietly working behind the scenes, in the dark hours before sunrise, set up fluid stations to the great benefit of every runner. Many of these good sports have been volunteering in this capacity for years. They all deserve our thanks. Our regular volunteers include:

  • Andrew Kenworthy
  • Avi Moss
  • Charlie Schaub
  • David Piper
  • Jacqueline Flaherty
  • Jeff Wittig
  • June Harris
  • Peter Griffith
  • Scott Bounds
  • Steve Hasson
  • Tom Bongiorno
  • and Team Captain, Loris Fusi

Naturally, these kind people can't be there to volunteer for you EVERY Sunday. Vacations, work, family, and life sometimes calls them away. To fill in the gaps, the team would greatly appreciate new volunteers to help out from time to time. To learn more, please contact Loris0105@yahoo.com. There is no better way to say "Thank you!" than to give them a day off.
