BCRR Weekly Update November 20 - 26, 2023

Greetings Bayou City Road Runners The Word from the Bird ­ BCRR AT THE HMSA 25K &10-Miler BCRR had an outstanding showing at the HMSA Classical 25K on Sunday. At least 29 runners toed the line in either the 25K or the 10-Mile race and many others were there to support, cheer and photograph along the course. The weather was lovely (although runners would have preferred a bit cooler) - it was optimal conditions for spectating and après-run socializing.    There were some outstanding performances including: 25K Podium Finishers: Allyson Serrao: 1:52:06 (3rd Masters Female) Valentino Julien: 1:26:10, (4th Overall - 1st (M30-34) Andrew Young 1:36:43 - 1st (M35-39) Leyla Østerhus: 2:11:07 - 1st (F50-54) Amy Tan 2:12:38 - 2nd (F50-54) Lisa Thompson: 2:10:08 - 3rd (F55-59) Avi Moss: 1:50:10 - 1st (M60-64) Gloria Mahoney: 2:50:38 - 1st (F70+)   Close-But-No-Cigar: Jacqueline Flaherty: 2:00:23 - 4th (F35-39), Stacy Smith: 2:01:26 - 4th (M60-64), Brenda Hilton: 3:03:29 - 4th (F70+)   Other outstanding finishes: Lee Morris: 2:06:05, Eivind Østerhus: 2:11:29, Harsh Bhasin: 2:23:55, Sam Pace: 2:25:53, Shelley Grahmann: 2:32:02, Steve Hasson: 2:35:48, Piotr Paczkowski: 2:46:20, Fred Steves: 2:57:07, Camille Fitzsimmons: 3:27:37   10 Miler: Podium Finishers: Chadwick Holmes: 1:06:46 (2nd Overall/1st Master). Missed 1st overall by 4 seconds; out run by 13 year-old Jason Hickok. Cathy McGlohn: 1:32:54 (4th Master/1st F60-69)   Close-But-No-Cigar: Robert Swanson: 1:39:06 - 4th (M60-69), John Fredrickson: 2:46:04 - 4th (M70+)   Other outstanding finishes: Mark Miller: 1:56:04, Mary Kathryn Campion: 2:01:40, Kathi Mahon: 2:03:41, Siong Ming (Hans) Wong: 2:09:22, June Harris: 2:10:13   BCRR members also excelled at another big race in the area: LaPorte By The Bay Half Marathon: Fred Ward: 2:12:53 - 1st (M75-79) Larry Lindeen: 3:10:49 - (1st 80+)   Congratulations to everyone who raced! CHM 2024 Local Elite: Ally Serrao Allyson Serrao once again achieved a qualifying time and placement for the Chevron Houston Marathon Local Elite Program.  Ally ran the 25k in 1:52:06 (7:53 pace) at age 57 (that's an age percentage of 85.2)! Weekly Club Runs

Mellow Monday 7 pm at Memorial Park Tennis Center for a 3 mile casual paced run around the Park and dinner to follow Wednesday Run 6:30 pm at First Christian Church for a 3-6 mile run around Rice University and Hermann Park followed by drinks at Valhalla Friday Speedwork 5:30 am at Memorial Park Running Center. Contact Peter Griffiths for more info Sunday Long Run 6:30 am at Memorial Park Tennis Center for a 10-12 mile supported run w/ water at 2 locations followed by breakfast at Whole Foods in Montrose (701 Waugh Dr Houston, TX 77019)
