BCRR WEEKLY UPDATE - April 12 to April 17th

In Memory of Dan Haworth

In the words of Lisa Thompson: Dan Haworth joined Bayou City after meeting us at a BCRR Happy Hour at Poison Girl. He was carrying a bunch of drinks, and I asked if one was for me. We told him we were runners and of course encouraged him to join BCRR. He often ran with Mellow Monday and on Wednesday. Dan passed away Friday after a long battle with ALS. He was an incredibly smart guy with a great sense of humor.

Details regarding a memorial service will be provided to the club when available.

SHOUT OUT to the 2019-2021 BCRR Board

Dear BCRR,

I wanted to share with you some of the roles & responsibilities of the board that has kept BCRR “Running” for the last 2 years:

Members at Large:

  • Mike Mangan - Mike has been the race director for the Bayou Bash Relay for (more than) the last 2 years. He has also been our liaison between the BCRR Board and other HARRA Races

  • Mirka Jalovcova - Each of the new BCRR members receives a Welcome Packet signed and sealed by Mirka. It’s a special way to say Welcome to the Club!

  • Justyna Paczkowski - Justyna has been our social media guru, posting photos of recent races and keeping the BCRR Facebook lively!

  • Joel DuBois - Joel has assisted the VP in preparing for the retirement of John Phillips by organizing equipment needs, setting up for races, and supporting the behind the scenes efforts.

  • Sarah Austin - Sarah has spent 2 years under the apprenticeship of Peter and will be the next year’s treasurer!

  • Peter Griffiths - Peter has spent the last ##?? years as the club treasurer. He handles the BCRR, Bayou Bash Relay, & Alex’s 5K accounts for deposits and reimbursements.

  • Andrew Young - Andrew takes minutes at each of the meetings so the board is held accountable for all the big plans we create! He assists with newsletter planning and keeps the roster up to date.

Vice President:

  • David Piper - Despite spending most of his time in the glorious land of Colorado, David has collaborated with Joel in establishing our plan for race set up, support, and equipment needs for past and future races.

  • Christina Young - Christina has kept the weekly email arriving to your inbox bright and early for the last 5 years (and will continue to do so)! The role of president has many different hats including party planner, supporting the Bayou Bash Relay/Alex’s 5K, troubleshooting issues that arise in the weekly runs, and instituting new club events (the Family Picnic!). The president is traditionally well supported by the remainder of the Board and no task is too large!

Thank you to each of these Board Members who have served 2(+) years on the BCRR Board!
