The beautiful and daring BCRR celebrity Lisa Thompson hosted a star-studded Oscar Party at the opulent Modern B&B this Sunday evening. The hostess wore a stunning "vintage" sequined Marchesa gown on the red carpet. Also seen amongst the numerous BCRR stars, starlets and fashionistas were at least two (of 7 known) James Bonds, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper and noted Hollywood gossip columnists Hedda Hopper (ask your gramma about her), while Veteran BCRR star, Scott Bounds, sported his "best red carpet" attire and was voted best-dressed for the evening. BCRR once again thanks Lisa T for hosting another fabulous event. Check our facebook site for photos...

On Oscar morning (Sunday) BCRR once again provided flawless race management for the Darling Dash 5K in Sugar Land. Peter Griffiths (star of Family Guy) and Scott Johnson (son of actor Don Johnson) answered the call for volunteers to load the equipment on trailer on Saturday.

Veteran director John Phillips, (with one arm tied behind his back) received an Oscar for directing an all star supporting cast of Rosie Schamndt, Lara Allan, Kathi Mahon, Sam Pace, Trey Beeman, Don Brenner, Jonathan Zwickel and Bob Thompson (who basically did most of the work) keeping the volunteers on track, out of trouble and the race running smoothly. Executive producer Mike Mangan who brought the club this project, received a standing ovation and picked up an Oscar for his cameo performance as the mysterious "Important Looking Guy."

Thanks to all who helped and we will see you all again next year!!!

When we show up for races or other social events we just take for granted that there will be a big purple tent setup for us and if its cold there are always plenty of heaters to keep us warm and when we see the long line at the port-a-cans we smile because we know we are the only club in Houston with clean private port-a-cans with no line and no waiting.  This is all made possible by the efforts of superstar BCRR member; John Phillips.    John plans what equipment is needed, drives to the boat shed and loads it onto his trailer, gets up real early and hauls it all to the the event, sets every thing up, stays late and packs it all up on his trailer, then unloads all of the equipment back to the boat shed and puts it all away.  If you have never volunteered to help with race management you probably don't realize that he hauls even more gear than that to make money for the club to keep our dues low and parties less expensive.  John never complains and would probably keep doing this forever but due to an recent injury he is on longer able too.  He just had some surgery that will prevent him from lifting heavy things for a few months so if you don't want all of these luxuries taken away, the club needs your help.

John will still be planning and transporting the equipment but needs our help with loading and unloading.  Many of the HARRA spring races will be on Saturday so John usually picks up the equipment on Friday from the boat shed.  We will be asking for volunteers to help with the gear for upcoming events to help keep things running smoothly so please if you want to continue to enjoy all of these creature comforts please volunteer when asked.   Our next event will be race management for the Darling Dash which is February 24th so we will need some help on Saturday to load the equipment at the boat shed.  If you are available to help John please reply to this message.   All BCRR club members should visit the boat shed at least once.  Its sort of a badge of honor to be able to say to the rest of the club members that "you've been to the boat shed."  Also the next time you see John please let him know how much you appreciate his efforts and not let him think we just take all he does for us for granted.

Thanks to all of you who volunteered for the Rhythm and Blues 5K and Half Marathon on Sunday. Your efforts earned the club $2,000 to help keep the cost of our membership costs low and subsidize our numerous parties and events.   We were also able to donate in BCRR's name, 641 pounds of fresh fruit that was left over from the race to the Houston Food Bank!
A very special thanks to John Phillips who worked long hours to put this event on and who kept everyone on track with their tasks during the day.   Also thanks to Susan Cita for doing an outstanding job coordinating and feeding all the volunteers.
