Sam Pace and Amy Tan resting their legs after crossing the Super Marathon finish line in Washington on June 17.

Team Effort Earns BQs

Sam Pace and Amy Tan headed north to beautiful Snoqualmie, WA (28 miles east of Seattle) for the Super Marathon on June 17. Their trip proved highly successful. The training partners ran together most of the race and both ladies finished in the top five of the 50-59 age group. They also both earned Boston Qualifying times.

In addition to BQs, the downhill race yielded fast personal times. Sam raced past her previous best marathon by over 6 minutes, to clock-in at 3:53. Amy finished at 3:51, only missing her previous best by 13 seconds.

Amy's strong performance earned her third AG, and would have captured second AG if she was one second faster.

Congratulations to both ladies on your BQs and finishing another marathon!

NOTE: If you have a story to share (great finish, or not so great) please send it to houstonbcrr@gmail.com.

Fantastic Fluids Team

The summer heat has arrived! And with the heat comes the critical need for the BCRR hydration stations. That need is especially apparent during the Sunday long runs. Thankfully, the club provides an answer. When thirsty runners arrive at the River Oaks rose garden feeling like a parched soul crossing the Sahara desert they find a magical oasis of BCRR fluids.

Of course, that oasis is not magic. BCRR angels working behind the scenes make it happen. Please be sure to thank the hydration station angels the next time you see them. Our regular volunteers include:

  • Scott Bounds
  • Jacqueline Flaherty
  • Peter Griffith
  • June Harris
  • Steve Hasson
  • Andrew Kenworthy
  • Avi Moss
  • David Piper
  • Charlie Schaub
  • Jeff Wittig
  • and Team Captain, Loris Fusi

The team is always looking for new volunteers to help out from time to time as the regulars take vacations and other breaks. To learn more, please contact Loris0105@yahoo.com. There is no better way to say "Thank you!" than to join in and lend a hand.

Hip, Hip, Hooray for Jay

Last Wednesday at Valhalla, members enjoyed an extra serving of good fun thanks to Jay Hendrickson. The birthday boy sprung for a tab to help spread good cheer for everyone present. Thank you Jay and happy belated birthday!
