When we show up for races or other social events we just take for granted that there will be a big purple tent setup for us and if its cold there are always plenty of heaters to keep us warm and when we see the long line at the port-a-cans we smile because we know we are the only club in Houston with clean private port-a-cans with no line and no waiting. This is all made possible by the efforts of superstar BCRR member; John Phillips. John plans what equipment is needed, drives to the boat shed and loads it onto his trailer, gets up real early and hauls it all to the the event, sets every thing up, stays late and packs it all up on his trailer, then unloads all of the equipment back to the boat shed and puts it all away. If you have never volunteered to help with race management you probably don't realize that he hauls even more gear than that to make money for the club to keep our dues low and parties less expensive. John never complains and would probably keep doing this forever but due to an recent injury he is on longer able too. He just had some surgery that will prevent him from lifting heavy things for a few months so if you don't want all of these luxuries taken away, the club needs your help.
John will still be planning and transporting the equipment but needs our help with loading and unloading. Many of the HARRA spring races will be on Saturday so John usually picks up the equipment on Friday from the boat shed. We will be asking for volunteers to help with the gear for upcoming events to help keep things running smoothly so please if you want to continue to enjoy all of these creature comforts please volunteer when asked. Our next event will be race management for the Darling Dash which is February 24th so we will need some help on Saturday to load the equipment at the boat shed. If you are available to help John please reply to this message. All BCRR club members should visit the boat shed at least once. Its sort of a badge of honor to be able to say to the rest of the club members that "you've been to the boat shed." Also the next time you see John please let him know how much you appreciate his efforts and not let him think we just take all he does for us for granted.

BCRR had a large group run the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday. You could not have asked for better weather for race day. At the start of the race the temperature was 40 degrees, low humidity, no wind and clear skies. The temperatures climbed to the upper 50s by the end of the race but light winds kept us very comfortable.
