Trolley Run Fun

On Saturday, April 1, about two dozen BCRR members joined the fun at the Bellaire Trolley Run 5K. And several members raced through the Bellaire streets to earn podium status and the famous model trolley car awards.

Valentino Julien blazed a 16:19 time to win Third Overall finisher. Not far behind him was Kevin DiVerde racing across the finish line 15th overall. Avi Moss and Scott Bounds proved top dogs (won 1st) in their respective age groups, while Theresa Pearsall earned a 2nd place AG. Also earning podium honors, with Third Place in their respective age groups were: Anna Helm, Gloria Mahoney, Larry Lindeen, and Ronan Harris.

Additional BCRR members completing the 5K of the Bellaire Trolley Run included: Amy Tan, Bernard Castro, Camille Fitzsimmons, Freddy Queen, Jody Berry, Larry Cullen, Nancy Greig, Richard Verm, Ron Morgan, Sam Pace Webster, Susan Cita, Suzy Seely, and Tim McGuirk. Congratulations to all the BCRR finishers!

Supporting the runners at the BCRR tent, and on photo patrol, were Joel DuBois and Andrew Webster. Thank you to our volunteers!

HARRA Spring Series Reminder

The Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) organizes two major racing series, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Both series offer contests for individuals as well as interclub competitions - and each race series features significant prizes for the winners! We are currently in the middle of the HARRA SPRING SERIES 2023:

  • Jan 15 - Aramco Houston Half Marathon - GRB Convention Center
  • Feb 18 - HBA Fun Run 8K - Sam Houston Park
  • March 4 - Bayou City Classic 10K - Houston City Hall
  • April 1 - Bellaire Trolley Run 5k  - Bellaire
  • April 29 - Bayou Bash Relay - T.C. Jester Park
  • May 13 - LP Run (33 1/3 min) - Rice University track

For more details checkout the HARRA race series link.

Speaking of HARRA Spring Series, the Bayou Bash Relay is just around the corner; and this race is near and dear to BCRR members' hearts, because BCRR is the managing host of this race! So mark your calendar ASAP and plan on being part of the fun on Saturday, April 29.

As many of you know, this annual event is a 4-person X 2 mile relay. The course is a single loop on paved and crushed granite trails in TC Jester Park. This race will begin at 4 PM in the afternoon. For complete details visit the BCRR info page Bayou Bash Relay. Remember, runners registered as BCRR members help earn the club points towards the intra-club series competition!

Sunday Smiles for Miles

The Sunday Long Run is a BCRR institution. Each week, without fail, club members meet in Memorial Park (on the running trail in front of the Tennis Center) for a casual run of about 10 to 12 miles through the beautiful neighborhood of River Oaks before looping back to the Memorial Park Tennis Center. The run begins promptly at 6:30 AM, when the gang takes off and splits up into several different paced mini-groups.

To keep things fresh, on the first Sunday of each month, the club runs alongside Buffalo Bayou down to the Sabine St bridge and back - as was the case yesterday. Halfway through yesterday's long run, members posed for a quick photo at BCRR's Sabine St water station, where saintly volunteers pre-stage water and Gatorade for hot and thirsty runners.

Sundays Need Hydration Support

Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Especially as the summer temps arrive! Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help as people go on vacation. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!
