BCRR Weekly Update 7/24/23 - 7/30/23

Greetings Bayou City Road Runners

The Word from the Bird

WEDNESDAY: Dash & Splash!

Following the Wednesday dash, beat the Houston heat with a splash! Head over to Andrew, Christina & Addison's place, for a jump in the pool. The party starts Wednesday (7/26) at 7:30 p.m. We'll have a hot dog bar (with vegetarian option) and a selection of beer and water. Bring your swimsuit and towel, any favorite pool toys, and any other beverages you can't live without.

SATURDAY: Run. Yoga. Beer. Breakfast.

Join us this Saturday (7/29), at 7 a.m. for a special club event! BCRR and Alex’s 5K have partnered with HARRA, PIM, and Benny Thunders (a relatively new establishment in the Heights featuring craft beer and wines), to host this FREE social event.

WHERE: Benny Thunders, 605 Columbia St, Houston, TX 77007

THE RUN: BCRR members will lead a run beginning about 7:15 a.m. The variable distance route (4-6 miles) will be announced soon. Please come out and run to support BCRR and meet new runners! If you need a long run that day, feel free to start early and finish at Benny Thunders to enjoy all the fun (but be sure to bring water for the duration of your run)!

POST RUN:

  • Shannon Wood will lead a FREE 30-minute yoga session at approx. 8:15 a.m. Bring a yoga mat and towel to take full advantage of the yoga session.
  • Dr. Alyssa Cappelletti, chiropractor and sports injury specialist, will be available for one-on-one injury evaluations and post-run stretching suggestions.
  • Post-run door prizes include FREE race entries to Alex’s 5K and the Bayou City Classic, and more!

COST: Participation is FREE for the run and expert consultants/trainer sessions. Breakfast is available for purchase from Cortlandt & 9th BBQ. Participants enjoy 15% discount on beer.

WHO: Open to the public. Bring a friend!

Party in the Park is scheduled for Saturday, Aug 19.

Call for Volunteers: Party in the Park

Saturday, Aug 19, BCRR joins HARRA for the annual Party in the Park where all clubs get together to celebrate running and invite nonmembers to join up. The fun includes beer, watermelon, music, lots of running clubs, and more!

Volunteers are invited to support this summertime soirée by helping BCRR and HARRA host tents. Sign up by emailing HoustonBCRR@gmail.com. We have some volunteers, but we need more. :-)

The event officially runs 7 AM - 10 AM at Memorial Park's running trail near the tennis courts. Best of all, it's FREE, but the club needs volunteers to make it happen. Save the date, Aug 19, and raise your hand to join our hosting team!

Members wearing the BCRR shirts during HARRA races earned free BCRR membership.

BCRR Membership Renewal Season

July is the month when the club's calendar year flips over, and all members are encouraged to renew their membership before month's end. Select this LINK TO RENEW your membership or learn more.

By the way, if you qualified for a free BCRR membership this year (by running in a designated HARRA race last season while wearing a BCRR team shirt) then your membership is free and the club already sent those qualified a confirmation email.

Sundays Need Hydration Support

Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Especially during the summer temps! Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help as people go on vacation. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!

Wearing a mask is still encouraged. Please maintain social distancing prior to and following club runs. Additionally, if you are feeling ill, have a fever, or have been exposed to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend club runs for 2 weeks.
