CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

We need people to help with race day management at 2 upcoming races: the Rockets Run on Feb. 16th and the Darling Dash on Feb 23rd. These races are revenue-generating events for BCRR and we are contractually obligated to provide volunteers. We have been supporting the Rockets Run for over  20 years and the Darling Dash for 15 years! Please help us continue this tradition (and raise money for BCRR)! We realize that these events are spaced close together this year during a busy race calendar, but It only takes a few hours of your day and you will be giving back to BCRR and the running community! Email houstonbcrr@gmail.com if you can help!   💜💜💜   Volunteers are also needed for the Bayou City Classic, the second race in the HARRA Spring Series, which will be held on Saturday, February 22nd this year.   Joe and Hope Sellers are Race Directors and many BCRR members occupy key positions on the race committee.    We always need volunteers! You can volunteer for packet pickups before race or other positions race day and still run! Rockets Run - Sunday, Feb. 16th

What: Rockets Run   When: Sunday, February 16, 2024, ~6AM   Where: Toyota Center. (Joe Sellers: course director.)   BCRR has provided course support for this race for 23 years! We need helpers for course setup, road guards and other positions of responsibility on the course. A few lucky people get to help on the floor of the Toyota Center with the cheerleaders/dancers. There will be donuts! VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE 2 FREE ROCKETS TICKETS!   SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER HERE! ­

DARLING DASH - Sunday, Feb. 23rd

February 23, 2025, ~6AM: Darling Dash, 10K, 5K, 1K Race to End Sickle Cell Trait Deaths. Stude Park. (Mike Mangan: course director emeritus)   BCRR has provided course support for this race for 15 years! We could especially use someone to help lift semi-heavy things! Need a few road guards and a water stop captain.    Email houstonbcrr@gmail.com if you can help! ­

RotS: Check Out Your Stats!

The HARRA - Houston Area Road Runners Association Runner of the Season (RotS) calculations have been updated to include the final race in the HARRA Fall Series: the Houston Marathon. If you are a HARRA member in good standing, have a look to see how you stand and note any corrections or omissions.   Please send any corrections to Hans (info@harra.org) before 2/28/25. After that, the results will be final.   Common issues that would cause your result to be missed in HARRA's scan would be different spelling of name in race results v HARRA database or wrong age. Learn more about the RotS   Congratulations! Many BCRR folks at top of the list! First 3 in each age category are in the money!   If you ran the Aramco Half Marathon, your results will be counted for the HARRA Spring Series stats!

February Events

February is a very busy month for BCRR with two HARRA Series Races and two volunteer events scheduled.    Saturday, February 15, 2025: John Eikenburg Law Week 8K (HARRA Series Race) Sunday, February 16, 2025: Rockets Run 5K (BCRR Volunteer Opportunity)* Saturday, February 22, 2025: Bayou City Classic 10K/5K (HARRA Series Race) Sunday, February 23, 2025: Darling Dash (BCRR Volunteer Opportunity)*   *BCRR has been volunteering for The Rockets Run and the Darling Dash for many years. We provide needed course support on race day. We truly appreciate everyone who gives of their time to help out on these races. These are revenue-generating activities that allow us to subsidize our member events.

­ Happy Hour No Official Happy Hour this week. Next Happy Hour will be at Langford's, 5028 Bissonnet, Bellaire, TX, 7701, Friday, Feb 7th at 6:30PM. There is a Beer Wall there!   Scheduling Note: Due to competing circumstances in the next few weeks, Happy Hours are being scheduled around conflicting events. For example, we canceled last week's happy hour due to marathon and will have one this week instead. We are not scheduling on Valentines Day (Feb 14th) or the day before the Bayou City Classic (Feb 21st) because many of us are volunteering/running that race. The happy hours will resume the every-other-week schedule on March 14th. ­ Sunday Hydration Support Thank you to Leyla Østerhus and Loris Fusi for setting out the water and Gatorade this coming weekend.                                             🥛🥛🥛   Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a your help. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!

Mellow Monday 7 pm at Memorial Park Tennis Center (on trail in front of Center) for a 3 mile casual paced run around the Park and dinner to follow	Wednesday Run 6:30 pm at First Christian Church for a 3-6 mile run around Rice University and Hermann Park followed by drinks at Valhalla	Friday Speedwork 5:30 am at Memorial Park Running Center. Contact Peter Griffiths for more info	Sunday Long Run 6:30 am at Memorial Park Tennis Center (on trail in front of Center) for a 10-12 mile supported run w/ water at 2 locations followed by breakfast at Whole Foods in Montrose (701 Waugh Dr Houston, TX 77019)

Congratulations to all who toed the line at one of the Houston Marathon Weekend races! There were some great performances in the face of some challenging conditions. Hope to get full list of all BCRR runners in a future newsletter.    Thank you to all who volunteered this weekend. BCRR members helped at multiple key positions to make the events go smoothly. Special thanks to Bob Thompson for taking over the Mile 20 BCRR Hoopla Station and water stop for Susan Cita this year. Thanks to Joe and Hope Sellers, John Phillips, and Joel DuBois for their leadership roles in organizing the course and water stations; to Ron Morgan, Anna Helm, Michael Ayala and others for volunteering on the course; to everyone who volunteered at the Expo in the HARRA booth (Chad Holmes, Hans Wong, Kathi Mahon, Anna Helm, LaTasha Gary, Suzy Seeley, Michelle Wolpert, Ron Morgan, Theresa Pearsall), Legacy Booth (June Harris & others), Hospitality Booth (Dave Piper, Ally Serrao), or elsewhere.    Special thanks to Sue Leone and Alan Svoboda for once again throwing a terrific post -race party at their home. Thanks to all who helped: Chuck Bracht, Cheryl Verlander, Edward Fras, and others who helped prepare the delicious food!   (Apologies if unintentionally someone left out!) ­
