BCRR Invited Local Elites

Congratulations to Allyson Serrao and Avi Moss, who once again have achieved Invited Local Elite Status from the Chevron Houston Marathon for their performances in the HMSA 25k and Andy Stewart’s 30k, respectively.   Look for them in the course. Ally is running the half marathon and Avi the full.   Good luck! ­ Annual GRB Long Run - Sunday  We had a great turnout for the GRB run on Sunday! We didn't let a little intermitent drizzle deter us from the experience of running the the last few miles of the Houston Marathon/Half-Marathon course.

Beverly Handy Completes 20th Goofy & 16th Dopey Challenge

Longtime members Beverly and Dexter Handy have been competing at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for many years. This weekend, Beverly completed her 20th Goofy Challenge (the Half and Full Marathon) and her 16th Dopey Challenge (5K, 10K, Half, & Full Marathon). Dexter has completed these events many times himself, but was chief cheerleader this time.   Congratulations Beverly! (photo: D. Handy)

Valhalla social afterwards.   🍜 Thursday 6:15PM: HARRA Pre-Marathon Pasta Party. Social Beer Garden HTX, 3101 San Jacinto St, Houston, TX 77004Houston, Texas 77006 (see details below)   Friday: No Official BCRR Happy Hour. Check BCRR Facebook page for potential  "unofficial" meetups.    Friday - Saturday: Houston Marathon EXPO: GRB.  On Saturday 10-11:30AM. - BCRR will be spotlighted at the HARRA Booth! Stop by and help promote the club!   Sunday: Chevron Houston Marathon/Aramco Half Marathon:   Pre-Race: Meet inside GRB before 6AM for last minute planning, group photo, and camaraderie. Look for us (some of us in purple or BCRR logos) gathering together sort of near the Legacy Runners' photo opt spot in GRB at Hall B. Check BCRR Facebook group page for location and last second updates. GROUP PHOTO AT 6AM   During Race:  Clothes drop locations on the Marathon course: Chuck and Cheryl's House on Mandell Street just after the turnoff from Bissonnnet. (mile 8) Susan Cita's BCRR Hoopla Station (mile 20). Clothes drop locations on the Marathon course: Hope Seller's Hoopla Staion at Bissonnett & Montrose (mile 8)   Discarded clothing may be recovered at the post-race party at Sue and Alan's house.    Post-Race: PARTY: Meet at Sue Leone and Alan Svoboda's house (see weekly email or contact houstonbcrr@gmail.com) for their annual epic post-race party, starting at approx. 11:00 AM, and featuring a heated swimming pool (bring a towel), a large Jacuzzi, NFL games on multiple TVs, hot showers (bring your own towel), and a buffet of GREAT food. All this and an assortment of "liquid refreshments". Pre-Marathon Pasta Party - Jan. 16

BCRR Mile 20 HOOPLA Station: Calling All Volunteers!

Susan Cita's Mile 20 Hoopla Station is where EVERYONE wants to volunteer on Marathon Day!    Susan will be out of town this year, but Bob Thompson and John Phillips will continue the tradition!   Register with the Marathon for an official Hoopla position. All this and an assortment of "liquid refreshments". February is a very busy month for BCRR with two HARRA Series Races and two volunteer events scheduled.    Saturday, February 15, 2025: John Eikenburg Law Week 8K (HARRA Series Race)   Sunday, February 16, 2025: Rockets Run 5K (BCRR Volunteer Opportunity)*   Saturday, February 22, 2025: Bayou City Classic 10K/5K (HARRA Series Race)   Sunday, February 23, 2025: Darling Dash (BCRR Volunteer Opportunity)*   *BCRR has been volunteering for The Rockets Run and the Darling Dash for many years. We provide needed course support on race day. We truly appreciate everyone who gives of their time to help out on these races. These are revenue-generating activities that allow us to subsidize our member events.    A volunteer sign up sheet will be made available next week.

Official Happy Hours will resume after the marathon.   ­ Sunday Hydration Support Thank you to Steve Hasson and Kathi Mahon for setting out the water and Gatorade for The GRB Run this weekend.                                             🥛🥛🥛   Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Mellow Monday 7 pm at Memorial Park Tennis Center (on trail in front of Center) for a 3 mile casual paced run around the Park and dinner to follow	Wednesday Run 6:30 pm at First Christian Church for a 3-6 mile run around Rice University and Hermann Park followed by drinks at Valhalla	Friday Speedwork 5:30 am at Memorial Park Running Center. Contact Peter Griffiths for more info	Sunday Long Run 6:30 am at Memorial Park Tennis Center (on trail in front of Center) for a 10-12 mile supported run w/ water at 2 locations followed by breakfast at Whole Foods in Montrose (701 Waugh Dr Houston, TX 77019)
