Want to have some input on the proposed upgrades to the Memorial Park running trail?  The Memorial Park Conservancy will host their second meeting  at 6:30 on December 10th at St. Theresa Church Hall, 6622 Haskell Street.  This meeting will include a short presentation on the ecology of the Park and will be followed by a facilitated group discussion.

They are also looking for park users to take part in an online survey on their website Memorial Park Tomorrow:  www.memorialparkmasterplan.mindmixer.com

The Christmas Lights Run and Post Run Party is this Wednesday, December 11th.
We will meet at the Rose Garden in River Oaks at 6:30pm for an easy 4 mile run to enjoy the Christmas Lights followed by a party at Lisa Thompson's Modern B&B (4003 Hazard Street).  Costumes and bells are welcome for the run and Lisa strongly encourages everyone to wear an ugly Christmas sweater to the party.  Free beer, wine and soft drinks.   Feel free to bring an appetizer or other treat to share.

Christmas is a time for giving and we would like to help the Houston Food Bank replenish their pantries that are usually depleted this time of year.  For admission to the party we ask that you either contribute to the party food or donate a non-perishable food item to the Houston Food Bank.   Also if you have some gently used running shoes that are looking for a new home, Anna Helm will donate them for you to the kids at Landrum Middle School.  Please bring them to the Christmas lights run and we will make sure they get there.

Volunteers Needed This Sunday December 16th for the Jingle Bell Run!  Volunteering is a great way to give back to your club, as well as learn more about the running community and meet your fellow BCRR members.  The Jingle Bell Run is a BCRR sponsored race and a major revenue generator for the club (the reason your annual dues continue to remain as low as they are). In order to take care of all the positions needed to pull this off, we will need at least 40 volunteers.   No heavy lifting involved (important info for people running the 30K that day). Road guards, timers, water station and kids run positions!  If you are available to volunteer, please email Volunteer Coordinator Rosie Schmandt at rschmandt@yahoo.com

We will have a BCRR Happy Hour following the Jingle Bell Run at the downtown Flying Saucer, 705 Main Street, Houston TX 77002 http://www.beerknurd.com/stores/houston/

The date for the 14th annual John's LOOOOOOOONG Run is set for Sunday Dec. 29th 6:30am.
As most of you know 3 week prior to the marathon is the optimal time for your last long run. This year I was able to make that work. I've laid out a 21mi single loop course with 6 water/Gatorade stops along the way. There are many ways to adjust the route to accommodate shorter runs. There will be a full breakfast menu along with adult beverages after run. Hot tub will be there for those so inclined but bring a towel.   Parking: street parking and in my driveway is available. You will see cones in front of my house and the neighbors. These just mark locations of sprinkler heads but you can still park there.  So arrive early to get the closest parking. The few things I ask is $8 ( or as close as you can get ) to help cover the cost. And that if you are wet via sweat/rain please dry off before coming inside, my wife will kill me if everything gets wet.  Please RSVP so I can get a head count for food and water stops. Thank you and train hard.
