From HARRA Prez Joe Carey:
For those you who run routinely in Memorial Park, we highly recommend your attendance at the upcoming public input meetings.
1) Seymour Lieberman Trail Upgrade and Redesign (which may include a change in distance) This meeting is November 19 as stated in the bottom of the attached email. HARRA contributed $25000 for the engineering study that this meeting will report on. It is expected that this project will be a few million dollars and move forward with the assistance of funding from the new Uptown TIRZ arrangement.
2) Memorial Park Master Plan. There are two meetings, with the first on this Tuesday and the second in December. This is a longer term effort as the plan may take at least a year of study to develop. But it is important that runner input is heard now, once plans are developed, they are hard to change. Roger Boak, Anna Helm, Ron Morgan and Joe Carey went to the last meeting and found it informative and encouraging, but there are no plans right now, they are just getting input.
Upcoming Master Plan Public Forums
Tuesday, November 12th 6:30pm - 8:30pm - St. Theresa Catholic Church - 6622 Haskell
This will include a short video from the Kinder Institute regarding the changing demographics in Houston as well as a brief talk by Texas Parks and Wildlife State Park Region 4 Director Justin Rhodes. Facilitated group discussion to follow.
Tuesday, December 10th 6:30pm - 8:30pm - St. Theresa Catholic Church - 6622 Haskell
This will include a short presentation on the ecology of the Park and will be followed by facilitated group discussion.
For those of you who can't make it, but would like a voice in the process, please visit the Memorial Park Tomorrow microsite where you can participate in surveys and more. Don't stop there--encourage your friends and family to visit the site!
CHANGE OF ADDRESS: Upgrading the Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail
Upgrading the incredibly popular Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail is a priority for both the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Memorial Park Conservancy. Work will begin soon to address erosion, drainage, dangerous spots and grading. A new water line will be installed as well as general irrigation. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to Park users, and we ask for your patience as we care for this popular amenity. If you would like an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed design for the refurbished Trail, please attend the open house:
Tuesday, November 19th 6:00pm - 8:00pm
NEW ADDRESS:
St. Theresa Catholic Church
6622 Haskell Street
If you would like more information on these events, please contact Memorial Park Conservancy Director of Development, Cara Rudelson, at cara@memorialparkconservancy.org.
Thanks for considering attendance and alerting your club members who may be heavy users of Memorial Park to participate as we should not assume the planners or decision makers are runners.
Regards,
Joe Carey for HARRA

One of our BCRR members Fred Queen suffered a heart attack last week while training with Kenyan Way. Fortunately for him he was able to get help quickly and will be ok.
Here is Fred's note to his Kenyan Way buddies.
Friends and fellow runners of Kenyan Way:
I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the outpouring of support and well wishes. I would especially like to express my thanks to Maddie, a real running partner, Mark Levy, for being there at the hospital for additional support, the mystery men that called for help and performed the CPR, Sean Wade for reviving me, Katrina for all the communications. Again, I want to thank you guys for all the well wishes!! I always knew that KW is more than a running group, it's extended family. I have one question for Maddie and Mark, HOW IN THE HELL DID I GET HERE?
Fred
I don't think my wife will let me run this weekend but plan to see you soon.
