Thanks to all of you who volunteered or ran in Saturdays Alex's 5K Race.

This year we estimate that we had approximately 500 runners and volunteers and only a few minor glitches.  The PIM organizers were very complimentary about the race and post race party.  This race would not have been successful without your help and support.  Special thanks to Race Director Lara Allan for a job well done.

The HMSA Classical 25K Race is this Sunday November 25th: http://www.hmsaclassical25k.com/.  The 25K Post Post Race Party this year will be at Andrew and Tina Kenworthy's house located at 2138 Wroxton Road.   They will serve both meat and vegetarian chili with fixings, beer, soft drinks water etc.  Please feel free to enjoy the hot tub and watch the Houston's Texans game on television.

The Houston Masters are looking for race day volunteers for the upcoming HMSA Classical 25K and 5K Race on November 24, 2013.   If you are not running the race please consider volunteering for this great event.  Please contact JoAnn Luco at joannluco@att.net or (713) 926-6709 home, or (281) 638-5930.

For those you who run routinely in Memorial Park, we highly recommend your attendance at the upcoming public input meetings.

1) Seymour Lieberman Trail Upgrade and Redesign (which may include a change in distance), November 19.   HARRA contributed $25000 for the engineering study that this meeting will report on.   It is expected that this project will be a few million dollars and move forward with the assistance of funding from the new Uptown TIRZ arrangement.  Tuesday, November 19th 6:00pm - 8:00pm, St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell Street

2) Memorial Park Master Plan.    There are two meetings, with the first on this Tuesday and the second in December.    This is a longer term effort as the plan may take at least a year of study to develop.   But it is important that runner input is heard now, once plans are developed, they are hard to change.    Roger Boak, Anna Helm, Ron Morgan and Joe Carey went to the last meeting and found it informative and encouraging, but there are no plans right now, they are just getting input.

Upcoming Master Plan Public Forums

Facilitated group discussion:

Tuesday, December 10th 6:30pm - 8:30pm - St. Theresa Catholic Church - 6622 Haskell
This will include a short presentation on the ecology of the Park and will be followed by facilitated group discussion.

For those of you who can't make it, but would like a voice in the process, please visit the Memorial Park Tomorrow microsite where you can participate in surveys and more.  Don't stop there--encourage your friends and family to visit the site!

CHANGE OF ADDRESS: Upgrading the Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail

Upgrading the incredibly popular Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail is a priority for both the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Memorial Park Conservancy.  Work will begin soon to address erosion, drainage, dangerous spots and grading. A new water line will be installed as well as general irrigation. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to Park users, and we ask for your patience as we care for this popular amenity. If you would like an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed design for the refurbished Trail, please attend the open house:

Tuesday, November 19th 6:00pm - 8:00pm

NEW ADDRESS:
St. Theresa Catholic Church
6622 Haskell Street

If you would like more information on these events, please contact Memorial Park Conservancy Director of Development, Cara Rudelson, at cara@memorialparkconservancy.org.
