Thanks to all runners/walkers that submitted miles traversed, you helped BCRR complete the Houston Half Challenge Part 1: Run to Boston of 1,842 miles over 15 days (July 10-24). We actually covered 2,519 miles, the 2nd best of all teams (there was no prize for finishing first). There was, however, a drawing of the 6 teams that finished the distance to Boston was held, AND the BCRR team was a winner!! All 42 BCRR members that submitted miles will receive a Houston Half buff compliments of the Houston Striders and the Houston Half Marathon.
For those of you not familiar with the term, a “buff” (also known as a neck gaiter) is a tube made of thin cloth that can be worn several different ways.
Joel DuBois has the buffs and will be contacting you to work out a time/place to get your buff to you. Thanks again for participating!! Next up is Half Marathon Challenge, Part 2: Chicago Bound, please participate in this as well (Joel will be hounding you if needed!!! ). See details in the FB Event HERE.
HARRA is challenging everyone to run the 88 mile distance of Beltway 8 from August 8 to September 8. Disclaimer: We do not recommend actually running on Beltway 8. The Challenge is open to anyone; but HARRA members, completing the distance will receive the visor pictured above.
BCRR Favorite Quarantine Buddy and Open Mic Poetry!
Mark your calendars, because it’s a BCRR Happy Hour Takeover. On Friday, August 21 Frank and another surprise co-host will present BCRR’svery first Virtual Cutest Quarantine Buddy Contest along with a Virtual Open Mic Poetry/Monologue/Short Story Reading Night! ALL members, families, and trained pets are all welcome to showcase their favorite poetry pieces this club has to offer. The festivities will start at 6:00 PM CT.
For the poetry/monologue/short story reading, we want to emphasize that we are really looking for anything. Quarantine finally gave you the time to dust off that old Robert Frost Book of Poems. For the Cutest Quarantine Buddy Contest we are looking for a short bio of your pet along with a picture.
The only thing we ask is that you perform your reading live in three minutes or less. Please email all photo submissions of your pet along with its bio to Frank Dougherty firstname.lastname@example.org. If you plan on reading, please email Frank that you will be reading a piece so he can set the schedule. We hope to see you all there!
