BCRR Weekly Update 1/16/23 - 1/22/22

Greetings Bayou City Road Runners

The Word from the Bird

Yesterday, before the Chevron Houston Marathon, BCRR members gathered in GRB Convention Center for a quick photo op before heading out to test their tolerance for pain and suffering.

Marathon Memories

About three dozen BCRR members are waking up today with sore legs and a great water cooler story. That's because they ran the 2023 Chevron Houston Marathon or Aramco Half Marathon yesterday. The sore legs will heal, but the finisher's medal and epic stories will last forever.

Share your story and photos with the BCRR newsletter. Did you PR? Did you run your first? Did you persevere? Did you volunteer? Let us know! Send your report and/or photos to ThatsJoesMail@Gmail.com by Jan. 21 to be included in the next addition of the BCRR Newsletter!

Among the very best memories of the day are the many volunteers that made everything possible. From kind souls working Hoopla Stations and water tables, to party hosts helping everyone celebrate in style, to photographers documenting the whole affair, to family members doing babysitter chores through months of training, big events like this don't just happen. Volunteers make them happen! THANK YOU to all our family, friends and BCRR members that lent their hearts and hands to the mission! You're the best!

Free BCRR Membership

The club announced a new program last year to recognize enthusiastic fans - FREE BCRR Membership for the 2023-2024 Running Season. To qualify, one need only have current membership in BCRR & HARRA (with BCRR listed as your club) and run a key race wearing a purple BCRR logo shirt.

Many BCRR members joined in the fun, and if you were one of those people that completed these 3 criteria, you will automatically receive a FREE BCRR Membership for the 2023-2024 Running Season. Be on the lookout this summer during the membership renewal period for your prize (free membership)!

Sundays Need Hydration Support

Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Especially in the summer! Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help as people go on vacation. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!

Friendly COVID Reminder

As the number of cases fluctuates, the BCRR Board kindly requests that you receive the COVID vaccination to minimize the risk to yourself and others. Wearing a mask is still encouraged. Please maintain social distancing prior to and following club runs. Additionally, if you are feeling ill, have a fever, or have been exposed to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend club runs for 2 weeks.
