BCRR Weekly Update 1/9/23 - 1/15/23

Good Morning Bayou City Road Runners

The Word from the Bird

Yesterday, BCRR members on one last long run before the Chevron Houston Marathon took advantage of a hydration station (provided by Loris Fusi and Peter Griffiths) near the GRB Convention Center. About 20 runners joined the annual tradition of running the last six miles of the marathon course.

Marathon Week Rundown

THURSDAY NIGHT - Carbo Loading Party

Join the club's pasta party at Spaghetti Western (1608 Shepherd Dr) this Thursday at 7 PM. This fun tradition is a great time to swap strategies and encouragement before the big race! Dinner is in a private room and the expected fee is $15. RSVP to Lisa Thompson at lisa@modernbb.com or text 832-279-6367.

SUNDAY EARLY - Photo

Early arrivals to the GRB Convention Center should jump in the club's pre-race group photo! The team will gather for the photo relatively close to where the marathon organizers take their Legacy Runners' group photo. Exact location TBD. Watch Facebook that morning for exact location.

SUNDAY DURING THE RACE - Aid

  • Clothes Drop - Runners on the full marathon course (but not the half course) will pass by Chuck and Cheryl's home near the mile-8 marker by Mandell St and Rice Blvd, and are welcome to shed outer layers or extra clothes. The garments will be collected and delivered to Sue & Alan's house for retrieval at the after-party.
  • Hoopla Station - Watch for Susan Cita, and her team, hosting a Hoopla Station near mile 20 to render liquid aid, comfort and joy to all the sweaty runners. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY see sexy note below.
  • Water Station - See the smiling face of Joel DuBois near mile 23 as he mans a hydration station for everyone that's still standing after that far.

SUNDAY AFTER THE RACE - Party

The annual celebration extravaganza that is the BCRR Post-Marathon Party once again returns to the warm confines of Sue Leone and Alan Svoboda's home at 326 Terrace. The fun starts at approx. 11 AM and features a swimming pool (bring a towel), a large Jacuzzi, NFL playoffs on TV, hot showers (bring a towel), a buffet of GREAT food and an assortment of "liquid refreshments." All this for a door fee of $10 per BCRR member (guests welcome at $15 per person). VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY see sexy note below.

LATER - Sharing

After your adventure, share your story! Send photos and thoughts to ThatsJoesMail@GMail.com to enshrine your historic day in the future record books of antiquity - or at least in the next BCRR newsletter. All photos and words due by Saturday, Jan 21. Your submission does not need to be fancy, just a few lines about your favorite part of the day and any pics you wish to share. The newsletter will not be complete without your story!

Volunteering is Sexy

and requires NO running!

AT THE MARATHON SUNDAY

The Chevron Houston Marathon supports runners with some AMAZING volunteers, like Susan Cita who will host a Hoopla Station at Mile 20. Non-runners are invited to join her crazy good time! Volunteers assist there approximately 7 AM to Noon, and besides supporting weary runners, the crew enjoys adult beverages, mocktails, and tasty snacks! For Susan's Volunteers CLICK HERE or contact Susan directly at susancita.bcrr@gmail.com.

AFTER THE MARATHON SUNDAY

During the post-race party, homeowners Sue Leone and Alan Svoboda request Door Hosts to welcome/sign-in attendees and collect the cover charge. Serving 30-minute shifts (with all the refreshments you can handle) will make for light work. Contact ThatsJoesMail@yahoo.com for details.

Additionally at the post-race party, Alan and Sue might benefit from a Margarita Machine Maestro. If you've got the talent (or can be trained) you could be VERY popular Sunday! Contact alan.svoboda@fmglobal.com for details.

THE FOLLOWING WEEKS

Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? If you answered “Me!” congratulations, you understand the issue; AND you qualify to periodically support the team. Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help. Please contact Loris Fusi at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!
