The Word from the Bird

All hardcore runners know that somedays you have to bear down and push through “less than ideal” running conditions, and that's what this group of rain-soaked BCRR members did yesterday at Memorial Park. All total, about 12 storm-defiant members showed up for the Sunday Long Run despite very ugly weather pushing more sensible people to stay home. What Are YOU Training For?

As mentioned last week, the running season did not end with the Houston marathon. Many more fun events are right around the corner. (The next race in the HARRA Spring Series is the HBA Fun Run 8K on Feb 18.) So what gets' YOU out there rain-or-shine? Let us know what you're up to by sharing your news on Facebook. And if you're not running in an race, consider volunteering. It's great fun and much less strenuous! You can find events to consider on the BCRR website calendar.

Your Research Could Mean Free Shoes!

Brooks Running team is asking BCRR members for feedback on their running gear. Brooks is seeking new runners to join their Wear Test program. As a participant, runners will periodically receive free gear in exchange for testing and feedback. Brooks currently ONLY offers women’s shoes size 6.5, 8.5, 10, 10.5, 12, or 13.5, and a men's shoes size 7, 8.5, 9, 10.5, or 12. If any BCRR member is interested in joining the Brooks Wear Test program, please apply using the link below. Any questions you may have must go to Arthur Sunga at arthur.sunga@brooksrunning.com.

Who likes water during the Sunday long runs? Especially in the summer! Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help as people go on vacation. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer!

Friendly COVID Reminder

As the number of cases fluctuates, the BCRR Board kindly requests that you receive the COVID vaccination to minimize the risk to yourself and others. Wearing a mask is still encouraged. Please maintain social distancing prior to and following club runs. Additionally, if you are feeling ill, have a fever, or have been exposed to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend club runs for 2 weeks.

Weekly Club Runs

Mellow Monday

7pm at Memorial Park Tennis Center for a 3 mile casual paced run around the Park and dinner to follow

Wednesday Run

6:30pm at First Christian Church for a 3-6 mile run around Rice University and Hermann Park followed by drinks at Valhalla

Friday Speedwork

5:30am at Memorial Park Running Center. Contact Peter Griffiths for more info

Sunday Long Run

6:30am at Memorial Park Tennis Center for a 10-12 mile supported run w/ water at 2 locations followed by breakfast at Starbucks (1300 Post Oak Park Drive)

**Please note that in cases of inclement weather, i.e. thunder & lightning, group runs will be cancelled for safety reasons. Check the BCRR Facebook Page for the latest updates on run cancellations**
