Greetings
BCRR! I’ve been president since July and thought it was high time I
introduced myself to anyone who doesn’t know me and reintroduce myself
to those who were hoping to forget…
I
have been a member since 2002 and have served on the BCRR Board on and
off through the years as a member at large and webmaster and as
president (2009-2011). So, yes – I am old as dirt. How old you ask? Come to Valhalla this Wednesday, Oct 18th , 7pm, and find out. It is my birthday and I will be sponsoring the tab and bringing pizza.
I agreed to serve again because I LOVE THIS CLUB
and am committed to its continued success and renewed post-pandemic
growth. The running scene has changed over the years and there are many
options for runners looking for group runs and like-minded camaraderie.
Thank you for choosing BCRR. We know (and encourage) fraternization with
other clubs; just make sure we are your favorite one! We hope to
continue our great social traditions and incorporate new activities as
well, including organized community runs with others in the Houston
running community. In the next few weeks, expect to see a survey
inquiring about your wants and needs from BCRR. All suggestions welcome.
Why do I love BCRR?
The people. Our running community is just the best. No matter how you
are feeling, a run with the group makes you feel better inside (although
maybe not on the outside). We support each other’s goals, champion our
successes, mourn our losses – both in running and in life. We’ve
celebrated marriages and births. We are sad when people move away. We
grieve when we lose a close friend. We are a family. My husband, Milan Jamrich, and I know this firsthand. The club was there for us when we lost our son Alex in 2010. We were immediately enveloped with genuine kindness and support. Lara Allen
and the club started Alex’s 5k in 2011 to raise money for autism in
Alex’s memory. We will never forget and that is why this club continues
to be so special.
