My last week's missive was all about me, but this week it's about YOU - the Club!
First I must acknowledge the incredible contributions of my predecessors, Lisa Thompson, and Christina Young
before her, who met the challenges of leading and reviving the club
through the pandemic and “post-pandemic” times. Lisa has contributed so
much to the club over the years through her spearheading the “Mellow
Monday” group run, fundraising via the BCRR garage sales and resale
shop, and as consummate party host (to name a few accomplishments).
Kudos to key volunteers who keep things running like a well-oiled machine, including Loris Fusi (Hydration Czar), Andrew Kenworthy & Tina Reynolds (Wed. Gatorade), Lisa
Thompson, Avi Moss, John Phillips, Sue Leone, Alan Svoboda, Cheryl
Verlander, Chuck Bracht, Susan Cita, Sue & Paul Schulz, Christina
& Andrew Young (Party hosts), Mike Mangan, John Phillips, Bob Thompson, Joe & Hope Sellers (Race management). (I apologize if I left anyone off the list…)
Very
special thanks to Joe Lengfellner who has served as website designer,
webmaster and newsletter editor for the last 10 years! Joe has decided
to step back after this long service, but is still a valued member of
our team and we will be looking for his advise in the future.
I am grateful to be working with the excellent and accomplished members of the current board: Steve Hasson (VP), Dave Piper (Secretary), Robert Swanson (Treasurer), and At Large Members (Joel DuBois, Anna Helm, and June Harris).
We always have a place for anyone to serve as an ad hoc member, so let
me know if you are interested or have specific ideas you would like to
share.
In addition to our ongoing group runs and social events, BCRR also owns and manages two races: Alex's 5k in November and the Bayou Bash Relay in April. We also help with race day management of the Rockets Run (2/4/24) and the Darling Dash
(2/25/24). All proceeds from Alex's 5k go to charity, but the other
races generate revenue for the club that allows us to offer free or low
cost events to our members. We appreciate all the members who volunteer
to make these races happen.
Lastly, we are well into the fall and our busiest party season, beginning this week with Lisa and Avi's epic Halloween Party on Friday, Oct 27th, 7:30PM, Modern B&B, (4007 Hazard St.).
This annual event is always a lot of fun and the costumes incredible.
No costume? No problem! Lisa has a trunk full for you to choose from.
You will have more than 24 hours to recover and run the Houston Half Marathon & 10K on Sunday, Oct 29th!
The "Half' is a HARRA Fall Series race and we will have the BCRR tent at
the event for all to gather. The event is a sell out, so prepare
yourself for a crowd! There will
be no supported long run on Sunday, so if you are opting to run River
Oaks, plan accordingly for your hydration needs.
Half-Marathon Post Race Party will be a picnic at Andrew and Christina Young's house starting at 12 noon.
They will have burgers, dogs, and drinks (including a selection of
beers and seltzers from Saint Arnold's and Karbach). People are welcome
to bring a side or desert to share. (look in your weekly email for the address.)
Hope to see you all this week!
Kathi Mahon
