XMAS Lights Run - Dec. 13th |
| Our annual run around River Oaks was a great success! This year we partnered with HARRA to open up the event to the entire running community. We had well over 50 runners join us! There were, of course, the usual festive (and well lit) costumes: Lots of Santa-hatted variations, notably Leyla "Santa Baby" Østerhus (who risked freezing). Best costume: Eivind the Reindeer
(who risked overheating). Eivind Østerhus is 2:0 in the BCRR costume
competition after this and his epic Halloween "Barbie". A good number
of the runners joined us after the run at Kenneally's Irish Pub where we filled the back room, enjoyed refreshments and food, played darts, and gave away gift cards and free race entries to Alex's 5k, Bayou City Classic (provided by HARRA) and Poppy's Run for Life (provided by Caryn Honig). (photo: June Harris) Most Importantly, we had fun, made new friends and showcased what our great club has to offer! |

BCRR Holiday Party - Dec. 15th |
| Our annual holiday party was a great success! A big THANK YOU to Robert and Melissa Swanson
for graciously opening up their home for this event. Attendees were
greeted at the door with a signature cocktail (habanero margarita -
crafted by mixologist and BCRR board member Anna Helm) and a BCRR Xmas ornament to take home. We enjoyed great Mexican food from Fajita Petes and an awesome cookie collection provided by the attendees. (a special thanks to Anna Helm and June Harris for helping set up the event.) John's Looong Run: The Run Sun. Dec 17th |
| Our annual tradition, John's Looong Run, a great success! The event begun by John Phillips well over 20 years ago for BCRR had a new twist this year. Due to the cancellation of the 30K, we partnered with HARRA and the Houston Striders open the run as a FREE supported long run to the entire Houston running community. Over 200 runners (and 2 dogs) joined us to run the 20+mile course!
The official start/finish was moved to Memorial Park (Blossom
entrance), but BCRR members started from the usual spot by Sue and
Alan's house. We had six manned water/Gatorade stops and the usual
course support. We even arranged for optimal weather! HUGE thanks to everyone who made this happen: Chad Holmes, Kathi Mahon, Ryan Minsterman, Hans Wong, June Harris, and Kate Hallaway (HARRA organization and course support). Special thanks: Alan Svoboda (mapping and marking course), Joel DuBois (John Phillip's sidekick), but especially John Phillips for all his hard work making the event run like a well-oiled machine! Most Importantly, we had fun, made new friends and showcased what our great club has to offer! Many runner photos are on the HARRA Facebook Page |

John's Looong Run: The Party Sun. Dec 17th |
| Yet another great success: the annual John's Looong run post run party! This party is truly one of the highlights of the year!
BCRR runners were treated to a delicious full breakfast (pancakes,
bacon, eggs, biscuits with gravy and more), beverages (Bloody Marys,
mimosas, beer and more). Thank you Sue Leone and Alan Svoboda for once again hosting this event! Thank you to all who volunteered to cook over 2 days: Susan Cita, Edward Fras and, of course, John Phillips. Photo: Susan Cita |

|
| | Thank you to Peter Griffiths & Loris Fusi for setting out the water and Gatorade this week. Who
likes water during the Sunday long runs? Especially during the summer
temps! Our Sunday morning hydration team could use a little more help as
people go on vacation. Please contact Loris at Loris0105@yahoo.com for more information on how to volunteer! |
