On Saint Patrick's Day, BCRR fielded a team for Poppy's Run for Life 5K, a race founded and directed by BCRR member Caryn Honig in
memory of her father and grandfather, who both died by suicide. This
race shines a light on suicide prevention and awareness and raises money
for important local programs at Alexander JFS and the Montrose Center that are making a real difference in saving lives. (Photo: J. Harris)
We
gathered to support Caryn, and run in remembrance of those in our lives
who have been touched by suicide. We wore yellow bandanas in honor of
BCRR Member Jim (Jimmy) Knievel, who we lost in October, as yellow was his favorite color.
Kudos
to Caryn and her team for organizing such an impactful event that was
at times sad, but also hopeful, because it shed light on the importance
of mental health while fostering a sense of community and understanding.
The following ran the race :
Anna Helm 25:22 (1st Grand Masters Female), Joseph Lengfellner 27:14 (2nd M60-69), Cathy McGlohn 27:47 (2nd F60-69), Natasha Schepps 31:35 (6th F20-29), Lara Allen 34:08 (4th F50-59), Kathi Mahon 34:40 (4th F60-69), April Murphy 35:52( 6th F60-69), Eric Faria 36:10 (5th M60-69), Gloria Mahoney 36:20 (1st F70), Larry Lindeen 42:52 (1st M70), Brenda Hilton 42:54 (2nd F70), June Harris 53:12 (11th F60-69), Bon Crowder 58:24 (13th F50-59)
John Phillips, Hope and Joe Sellers participated in race support.
All
proceeds will be donated to the suicide prevention and awareness
programs and services at Alexander JFS and the Montrose Center. So far,
Poppy's Run For Life has donated $30,000 to the Montrose Center and
$30,000 to Alexander JFS. You can make a donation HERE
