A GATHERING OF OLD AND NEW FRIENDS!
Last
Friday, May 31st, more than 100 BCRR Members - past, present, and
future - gathered together for an evening of friendship, food and
festivities to celebrate our 40 years of toeing the line as the best
running club in Houston!
The
event took place at the Fellowship Hall of Saint Theresa Catholic
Church - just across the way fro the Seymour Lieberman Trail of Memorial
Park.
The evening began with mingling and the resurrection of the Ice-Breaker BINGO game originated by April Murphy back in the good old days. Attendees represented original members of BCRR and its predecessor clubs (Getty Oil RC and Galaxy RC) through all the decades to present. After an Italian pasta dinner, an awards presentation and slideshow ensued.
A
detailed list of awardees will appear in the next newsletter and on the
website. The picture slideshow video will be posted on YouTube soon.
Highlights:
John Phillips and Lisa Thompson each received BCRR Lifetime Achievement Awards
in the form of custom bobble heads. This recognition reflects years of
sustained leadership, support, and volunteerism in BCRR and advocacy in
the greater Houston running community.
We also bid a bittersweet goodbye to longtime members Kate and John Philbrick, who recently retired and are moving back to Maine. We will miss them and hope they will come back soon to visit.
Huge thanks to the BCRR Board (especially Robert Swanson, Anna Helm and Joel DuBois) and Melissa Swanson, Katie Decker, Gloria Mahoney, Cindy and Bill Featherston for helping make this event happen.
Here's looking to another 40 years!
